| South of Lucerne lies the grand Alpine heart of Switzerland, a massively impressive region of classic Swiss scenery - snow capped peaks, green glacial lakes, pretty villages and flower-decked balconies. The most spectacular of the Alpine regions, the Bernese Oberland, lies within comfortable striking distance of our base at Sachseln and is best known for the grandiose mountain ridge formed by the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau, and their surrounding areas of pasture. Additional highlights of this magical tour include a scenic train ride aboard the world famous ‘Glacier Express’ and a tour of Lucerne and the pretty communities dotted around the lake.

| Saalbach has been our base for this tour for 28 years and thousands of holidaymakers have been enchanted by the traditional Tyrolean houses and host of excursion opportunities. It’s a pretty village situated in the Pinzgau Valley and is the perfect base from which to explore some of the most scenic and mountainous parts of Austria. English is widely spoken and Saalbach, a fashionable ski resort in winter, has a relaxed atmosphere during the summer. The bustling streets are alive with colourful shops, terraced cafes and numerous small bars, often ringing to the sound of traditional Tyrolean dancing and music.

| We include three spectacular railway journeys, and introduce some of Scotland's most beautiful and unspoilt countryside, much of which is not accessible by road.
The Kyle Line takes you on a scenic ride from Dingwall to the Kyle of Lochalsh, and the West Highland Line operates through the spectacular scenery between Mallaig and Fort William. The Settle Carlisle Line is a fitting grand finale to our tour as we travel on England's most scenic railway through the magnificent Yorkshire Dales.
